Compliments of Pilates in the Grove

What Our Clients and Community Say About Us

“I started taking pilates at Pilates in the Grove in the hopes of easing my pain. One day after pilates one of the PT’s suggested PT with fascia release.  I was highly skeptical after all those appointments with clinicians but I took a chance.

It was incredible!!  After just the first session, my pain was greatly diminished.  I felt a freedom of movement that I had not experienced, well, maybe ever.  I completed a series of PT sessions and continued to take pilates.” –  J. L.

“The professional/knowledgeable Physical Therapy that I received at Pilates I’m the Grove as I recover from Bilateral knee replacement surgery four months ago, has been amazing.

My body is beginning to feel like one unit again.  The stretches while on the reformer, the manipulation of the fascia and scar tissue surrounding my knees has provided relief for me to ride a stationary bike and to return to the golf course.” – Tracy W.

“My doctor brought me bad news. I had a stenosis in my back. The inflammation was incredibly painful and I was bedridden.  His options ranged from surgery (scared!) to shots (not a fan) to the slow but maybe helpful PT option of Pilates.  I chose the more natural and less risky option.  After seeking guidance from my network, I decided on the team at Pilates on the Grove.  With special help and a caring attitude from my therapist, (and my consistent effort), my pain went away quickly and I became pain free in 4 months.   Now, 8 years later I am still asymptomatic IF I KEEP UP the effort to maintain my core strength and the mobility that i have achieved with pilates.  The stenosis cannot be cured, but I am healthy, happy and pain free.  Thank you Pilates in the Grove.” – Joe F

“Being in pain can be crippling mentally, physically and spiritually.  My struggles began 10 years ago. I’ve tried everything, or so I thought. It wasn’t until this past year that I read an article by Christa Gurka that no one should be living in pain. It took me a little while to make the call, but I am so thankful I did! After  Myofascial release skills to take me out of pain and assist in my breathing, while Christa and her amazing staff use Pilates to help me strengthen and tone. Pilates in the Grove is first class all the way. Thank you Christa and your amazing staff for giving me hope again...” – Dana P

"I had problems turning my neck and it was really bothering me for weeks. The awesome Physical Therapist at PITG- after evaluating me, worked on loosening muscles in both sides of my chest and shoulder area. She also found the muscle in the side of my neck very tight. After she worked on me - my neck was fine. 2 weeks of agony and it was gone in one hour" – Nancy L

“I shared with you on our first lesson that I had 3 primary goals that I wanted you to help me achieve; flexibility, balance and posture. I pleased with our progress and here’s why.

Flexibility: we both know that I might be the least flexible person you’ve ever encountered. My expectations weren't high, but I definitely feel improvement. I measure this in my golf game which has improved in the last 6 months. More shoulder turn and hip movement.

Balance: great improvement here. My ankle strength and quick muscle reactions are the key.

Posture: the only way I can measure this is through my wife’s observations and comments, which are good. She says that I’m standing taller and walking straighter. That’s what I wanted.

You’re knowledgeable about what areas need improvement and how to make it happen. You vary the lessons so that we don’t get bored and I continue to improve. – MIKE

"Prior to beginning Pilates at Pilates in the Grove, my normally active life had gone very sedentary due to severe lower back pain. Now, after less than a year, I am back to playing with my kids, running (currently training for the NYC Marathon) and, most telling of the results, playing pain free golf. In addition to working you through the exercises, the group at Pilates in the Grove help you understand your body and how to control the different muscle groups to move properly and avoid injury. The team at Pilates in the Grove literally gave me my life back. I would recommend Pilates to anyone, regardless of whether you suffer from back pain or just want a good workout. Thanks again staff at Pilates in the Grove." – Steve G

“I have been running and lifting weights for more than 30 years. While I considered myself to be a “ fitness” person, in the back of mind I knew that something was not right with my body. My workouts were wearing me down  and even hurting me.  A few years later and with the help of Pilates in the Grove, I have been taught how to properly exercise , and consider myself as fit as I have ever been . Between their specially tailored Physical therapy sessions and excellent instructors, I have become healthier and more fit than ever.” – Andrew S.

“Around fifteen years ago I started training for my fist marathon. Although I had always been a ‘runner’ my body quickly began to endure the typical stresses and pains that many long distance runners experience. In the following months, and years, I tried incorporating weekly massages, ice baths, cross training, weight lifting and even yoga as I struggled to continue running long distances relatively pain free.

During the last 30 months, I’ve attended pilates group sessions regularly. The benefits I’ve experienced, including improving my running, have been so noticeable that it has become my primary fitness activity. I have improved my core strength, flexibility, become aware of muscle imbalances and weaknesses, improved my balance and breathing. To me, it is the ideal activity for novice or experienced runners, whether you run three miles 3 times a week or an ultra-marathoner. Last, while the intrinsic value of practicing pilates is evident, I realize the benefits gained stem from working with a group of extremely competent trainers at Pilates in the Grove.” – Eduardo, P

“Across the board, the instructors are not only competent in their knowledge, but have wonderful personalities that make classes a pleasure. In addition, the people working the desk are pleasant and helpful. The fact that so many of your instructors are physical therapists gives me confidence that I am doing the exercises safely and correctly. The convenience of the location in the Grove is key for me.”

"I had experienced pain in my neck, and a friend recommended Pilates in the Grove.  Zaida Perez, a Physical Therapist/Pilates Instructor with Pilates in the Grove, was able to hone in on the areas causing the pain and quickly and expertly alleviate the pain, leaving me with pain-free range of motion and restoring the flexibility I thought I would never have again."
