We are excited to announce that we are going to be hosting an Active Aging workshop for people over 60! Helping you make the best years of your life, the BEST years of your life!

Aging doesn’t have to be something feared or “accepted.” In fact, it can be just the opposite, and we’re going to show you how!

Who: This is a FREE workshop hosted by Pilates in the Grove and a panel of experts on Aging Actively.

What: Topics will include:

  • Pain Management
  • Flexibility, Mobility, and better Movement 
  • Nutrition
  • Mental Health

… and how everything is connected to each other, leading to a fuller, healthier, and more active life!

How Pilates keeps you younger, longer!

Flexibility, Mobility, and Moving better

Like most forms of exercise, Pilates helps you to move better. Keeping mobility, flexibility, and strength is vital to reducing accidents or falls and combating the natural effects of aging.

But unlike “most exercises” Pilates is low-or-no impact so you don’t have to worry about achey joints in the days after. The other upside is that Pilates can be load-bearing so it helps improve bone density and reduce the effects of Osteoporosis too!

Pain Management

Sometimes our pain can get so bad, it actually stops us from moving, which isn’t great for our physical or mental health. Pilates helps manage pain long-term without the need for medication and can mean a pain-free life for many!

Our board-certified Physical Therapists and certified instructors on the panel will be discussing how pain affects movement. Plus some of the most common ways to help manage pain to make sure you feel better day in and out.

Nutrition

What we eat is very important, and if you want to be healthier, you have to eat healthier too. What we eat is directly linked to:

  • Osteoporosis prevention
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • and even mental health afflictions like Alzheimers, depression, and anxiety

Our friend Carla Duenas RD, CDE, from Community Health South Florida will be joining us on the panel to discuss all of this and more!

Mental Health

Physical activity (Pilates!) and improved mental health are directly linked! From depression and anxiety to diseases like Alzheimer’s, dementia, and even schizophrenia, when we get our bodies moving and healthier our ability to prevent and fight mental illness increases.

Overall health and wellness are important to us so we’ll be discussing mental health as we age, and common ways to combat mental illness.
